Valentine's Day!

Our room moms planned a fun Valentine's day party!

I was utterly amazed at their valentine boxes!

Chemical and Physical Changes

Representatives from the Children's Discovery Museum in Salt Lake came to do a presentation for the 5th grade!  Later in the day we got to hypothesis what would happen when we mixed two substances together, make observations, and classify the changes as either physical or chemical.  Don't we look cute in our lab goggles?

Meal worms!

Studying meal worms covers two points from our heredity unit!  1) they go through a life cycle 2) all their responses are inherited traits.  We have been observing the meal worms as they go through their life cycle.  We also did a lab where we saw how the meal worms respond to various stimuli.  Although all the students aren't fond of the "gross" meal worms, we sure are learning a lot from them!

Guest Expert

Nick Peterson, studying genetics at BYU, came to our class as a guest speaker!  He taught us about Mendel's experiments and punnett squares.
